"There is no doubt that almonds were once one of the healthiest foods on Earth; there are many health benefits of almonds. But before you buy almonds today, here is something you should know: most of the almonds sold in the U.S. have been fumigated with propylene oxide, a chemical that even the CDC has admitted causes cancer. In 2007, it became illegal for raw almonds to be sold in the U.S. What brought about this law was an outbreak of Salmonella in Canada that was traced back to an almond grower in California. The California Department of Health Services stepped in to help this grower increase the safety of his almonds, and that appeared to be the end of it. But a second surprising outbreak of Salmonella occurred shortly after, and several government agencies got together to mandate treatment so there would be no more Salmonella outbreaks. If you are thinking how strange it is that Salmonella would occur in something as dry as almonds, you are not alone."
"They’re lightweight, they’re multi-purpose, they’re inexpensive and they don’t take up hardly any space; a plastic bag fits all of the criteria for being an ideal survival item. Since they’re so readily available, you should have some in several different sizes just so that you can be prepared for even MORE scenarios! Here are just a few survival uses for plastic bags – we promise not to state the obvious use of carrying things!"
"You might find it all too easy to resist the lure of a turkey drummer, a ready meal, a “fruit” drink or a pappy loaf of standard white bread. You might check labels for E numbers and strange-sounding ingredients, boycotting the most obvious forms of processed food. And yet you will still find it hard to avoid the 6,000 food additives – flavourings, glazing agents, improvers, bleaching agents and more – that are routinely employed behind the scenes of contemporary food manufacture. That upmarket cured ham and salami, that “artisan” sourdough loaf, that “traditional” extra-mature cheddar, those luxurious Belgian chocolates, those speciality coffees and miraculous probiotic drinks, those apparently inoffensive bottles of cooking oil: many have had a more intimate relationship with food manufacturing than we appreciate."
"Today a 40-year market veteran sent King World News an incredibly important piece that warns the world is about to enter a period of immense financial destruction and social disorder. This piece exclusively for KWN also discusses why the financial destruction and social disorder will engulf the entire world."
"Both President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have found themselves formally charged as accessories to terrorism. Tied to the group of “moderate” Muslims belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood, the Egyptian government is accusing Obama and Clinton of aiding and embedding the terrorists – specifically, their slaughter of innocents."
"With the Federal Reserve printing trillions upon trillions of dollars to keep the economic system afloat, many investors and financial pundits have surmised that the fundamental economic problems facing the United States during the crash of 2008 have been resolved. Stocks are, after all, at historic highs. But the insiders know different. And if there’s any single person out there who understands U.S. monetary policy and its long-term effects on domestic and global affairs it’s former Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan. As the head of the world’s most powerful central bank for nearly two decades he’s privy to the insider conversations and government machinations that have brought us to where we are today. Greenspan recently joined veteran resource analyst Brien Lundin at the New Orleans Investment Conference to share some of his thoughts. According to Lundin, the former Fed chairman made it clear that the central bank is facing a serious problem and one that will have significant ramifications in the future."
"Military survival instructor John Leach has researched behavior in extreme environments and has studied the actions of survivors and victims from dozens of disasters around the world, including one in which he was personally involved. He learned that in life-threatening situations, “around 75 percent of people are so bewildered by the situation that they are unable to think clearly or plot their escape. They become mentally paralyzed. Just 15 percent of people on average manage to remain calm and rational enough to make decisions that could save their lives. The remaining 10 percent are plain dangerous: They freak out and hinder the survival chances of everyone else.”
"It makes sense that your handheld radio should be able to take the place of multiple radios. Want to add all the channels you need quickly and easily? Let’s program a Baofeng Radio with CHIRP to get the job done. The Baofeng handheld radios are inexpensive but cover many frequencies, making them the Swiss Army Knives of the budget ham radio community. We’re going to program a Baofeng radio with CHIRP. The BaoFeng UV5R, is an amazing, yet economically priced radio. It can cover a multitude of channels and frequencies. The Bands these cover (Not all of these are legal to broadcast on, but listening should be fine – see FCC Part 95 Rules)"
"With spring near, you’re hoping for a cure to cabin fever. Maybe a camping trip to your favorite spot is in order. Time to refresh your camp craft skills and awe your camping buddies with your rope and stick tying skills! Lashing isn’t just for Boy Scouts and pirates. This skill comes in handy for gardeners, homesteaders, bushcrafters, and for that unlikely event when you need to build a raft to escape a cannibal infested island."
"There’s a sizable number of those in the Patriot community who believe that restoring Liberty will come to violence and, of those, a great number believe that an insurgency is the way forward. Insurgencies are often how the disaffected few, be they religious, ethnic, or political/ideological groups, respond to the perceived tyranny of the many. But the track record of insurgencies is fairly weak; less than 40% of them have succeeded since 1945. According to Max Boot, insurgent/guerrilla-expert-extraordinaire, of the 443 insurgencies since 1775, only 25% of them were successful. And since 1945 over 50% of government counterinsurgencies have succeeded. On its face, that doesn’t say much for the likely success rate of a nationwide insurgency. What’s much more likely is that we see fragmented secession movements, backed up with credible threats of force on behalf of burgeoning insurgencies. This is what I see as a much larger trend on a longer time frame, not what’s right around the corner. We could easily be another ten years out from this scenario, barring any catastrophic events until we get there. I think this nation’s current trajectory — the Magic Marxist Muslim and all — still gives us three to five years, at least. (When people are expecting eventual calamity, it’s easy for them to overly simplify things and expect it to happen tomorrow, which is what we see with many in the Patriot-Prepper community. The times are getting dire, but not that dire.) So we have some time to get acquainted with an academic understanding of insurgencies, what makes them successful, and which model presents the highest likelihood of success."
"What ever happened to Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (RMSF)? It seems like Lyme Disease hogs most of the air time these days – but RMSF is still around. In this post we’ll show you two safe and clever ways to remove ticks you may have not seen before. We will also review the symptoms – and most important – the treatment of RMSF Preppers should know cold!"
"Having a good understanding of tactical hand signals amongst your urban survival group will be a force multiplier when SHTF. Being able to communicate silently amongst each other will be critical to staying alive and taking out the enemy. Share this information with other members in your group and set a due date to have these tactical hand signals memorized. Once everyone in your group have these signals memorized it’s important that you go out and train/practice these until they’ve become internal/automatic. It will only require a few hours to memorize so you have no excuse to not study these, they could save a life one day. Add this to your list of urban survival skills you need to develop, you’ll be glad you did."
"I consider myself to be in decent physical condition. Even so, at my age, every pound added to my backpack affects the gravitational pull and energy needed to carry the stuff. I’m no ultralight hiker by any stretch, but I do try to lighten my load every chance I get. I’ve wanted to own an oilskin tarp for some time now. They’re durable but too pricey for our budget at this time. A quality oilskin tarp (new) will set you back $200. My motto, when it comes to gear, is buy the best you can afford. Or, go the common man route and make your own. The idea for this project came from William Collins’ 4 part series on his YouTube channel. I’ve condensed his method into a short tutorial for you."
(Sgt Trainer: DHS reportedly released information stating that this was not a "credible" threat. Whether or not you frequent these locations, it would be prudent to stay situationally aware regardless of your location.)
"The U.S. Army may have rejected Beretta’s M9A3 as it moves forward with the Modular Handgun System program, but don’t feel pity for the Italian gun dynasty just yet, as they probably have a winner on their hands with the unveiling of the striker-fired APX:"
"Gun people love training. They revel in expertise. They gush over the incredible feats that expert gun users, from Annie Oakley to Jerry Miculek, can accomplish. Do not mistake me. I approve of training. Training is good. I have trained a lot of hours… and days… and years… and decades. I have trained military, police, and civilians. But large numbers of people use handguns very successfully with little or no training. A case in point occurred recently in Ohio."
"During the coldest part of winter I often burn coal instead of wood in my stoves. To my way of thinking – nothing keeps you as warm as coal. There are two main types of coal used in the United States for energy: bituminous coal and anthracite coal. Bituminous coal is the most common form of coal. It is the type of coal that is use for electric power plants, but it is also used for home heating. Bituminous coal is dull and dusty looking and is easily burned. It is considered to be a soft coal and burns sooty. Bituminous coal contains 10,500 to 14,500 BTUs per pound. Anthracite coal is a denser, harder coal that is found in the US, but only in eastern Pennsylvania. Anthracite coal is about twice as expensive as bituminous coal and is almost always used for home heating and not for electricity generation. Anthracite coal is shiny and waxy looking and burns clean. Anthracite coal contains about 15,000 BTUs per pound."
"Stolen encryption keys are just the beginning. US NSA appears to have compromised big telecom, IT manufacturers, online banking, and even passports, starting on the factory floor."
"In “The Day After Tomorrow” a radical climate shift creates a new ice age and the main characters have to survive in it. In “Armageddon” a big asteroid is going to hit Earth unless a special team of drilling misfits can blow it to pieces. In “The Road” a father and son try to stay alive each day in the midst of a nuclear winter. In more video games than I could list the main character has to survive in the post-holocaust world while trying to accomplish some mission critical to the survival of himself or some group. When you look at all the different fictional scenarios that have been created to mandate some sort of survival situation you realize that everyone may have a different vision. My (rhetorical) question for you is this: What’s YOUR survival vision? Think about it for a moment and be honest with yourself. Assuming you are a prepper of some sort (and that’s definitely not a bad thing in my book) then what exactly are you prepping for? Economic collapse? Societal collapse (anarchy)? A 2nd Civil War in America? Limited nuclear war (which would cause economic and societal collapse)? A medical pandemic that causes a societal collapse? A zombie outbreak that creates a societal collapse? I submit to you that no matter what you are preparing for, you are actually planning and preparing for multiple scenarios. Why? Because BASIC survival is BASIC survival no matter what puts you in the survival situation. Whether you are surviving in a city or in the wilderness, your basic survival needs are the same: food, water, shelter, defense and first-aid."
"Once upon a time, North America almost divided along a very deep subsurface rift. Today, that rift system and the faults associated with it are known as the New Madrid fault zone. This fault zone is six times larger than the San Andreas fault zone in California and it covers portions of Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi. Back in 1811 and 1812, four of the largest earthquakes in U.S. history struck that area of the country. The movement of the ground was so powerful that it changed the course of the Mississippi River and it rang church bells in Boston, Massachusetts. So could such an earthquake (or worse) strike today? Well, last year the U.S. Geological Survey released a report that warned that the New Madrid fault zone has the “potential for larger and more powerful quakes than previously thought“, and the USGS also admits that the number of significant earthquakes in the middle part of the country has more than quintupled in recent years. We also know that the U.S. government and large corporations are so concerned about the potential for a major New Madrid earthquake that they have held major exercises that simulate one. Scientists tell us that it is just a matter of time until another superquake hits the region, and personally I am one of the millions of Americans that believe that we will eventually see a New Madrid earthquake that will divide the United States in half. That is one of the reasons why I included a New Madrid earthquake in my novel. But others are skeptical. They point out that we have not seen a truly devastating earthquake in that region for more than 200 years. So why be concerned about one now?"
